Rethinking: Xenakis Competition
August 31, 2022
“Composition for Ensemble”
Commemorating the 100th anniversary since the birth of the prominent Greek composer Iannis Xenakis, the Greek Composers Union has organized an International Competition.
The aim of the Competition is to encourage composers from all over the world to create new pieces for ensemble and to promote contemporary creation!
Composers from around the world, of any nationality and age, are invited to write chamber music works reflecting on the achievements of the great creator.
Compositions that will be submitted will be judged by an international committee, which will choose three works for the three prizes. Celebrating the 100th anniversary since the birth of Iannis Xenakis, the Friends of Music Society offers the prizes for this international competition.
The Ionian Ensemble will perform the three award-winning pieces at a special concert on the 3rd of October at Megaron – The Athens Concert Hall.
• The competition is open to composers of all nationalities with no age limit and without registration fees.
• The submitted works must not have been previously published, performed, broadcasted or awarded at a different competition.
• The contestants will submit one work for ensemble that must last between 8 and 10 minutes. The duration of the piece must be written on the score.
• The use of electronics or solo instruments is not permitted.
The submission deadline is 31 August 2022, and in order to be considered as final, there must be an electronic submission.
