SUMMARY:Sweden – Alessandro Perini plays Bernard Parmegiani
DESCRIPTION:Bernard Parmigiani’s “De Natura Sonorum” – whose title echoes Lucretius’ “De Natura Sonorum” \, explores the multiplicity of sound possibilities. This profuse work\, with countless discoveries and dazzling intuitions\, has influenced several generations of composers and remains a truly seminal piece in the experimental music soundscape. \nINTONAL is an annual festival for experimental and electronic music that has been held in Malmö. The focus of the festival is to offer an international programme of experimental and electronic music covering a wide range of genres\, subgenres and unique expressions. Besides established artists within the electronic avant garde and acts bordering towards sound art\, a hefty club oriented programme will also present DJs acting within an innovative new scene for dance music. Parallel to this there is also a number of installation exhibitions and artist talks. \nVisit the Intonal page – intonalfestival.com

SUMMARY:Sound in Space\, Sound in Place
DESCRIPTION:Sound in Space\, Sound in Place\, a survey of contemporary sound art\, foregrounds sound and listening as powerful shapers of everyday experience and draws attention to sound’s unique properties as an artistic medium. \nCall for Sounds\nThe New Bedford Art Museum invites New Bedford residents to submit short recordings of the sounds that make up New Bedford’s unique “soundscape.” What are the sounds that make New Bedford familiar—like home? What sounds anchor you in place? What sounds would you miss if they suddenly went silent? We want to hear what you hear! NBAM will incorporate a selection of these sounds into an exhibition planned for April 2023\, as well as an interactive online map—scheduled to launch at the same time. \nSpecial Discussion\nApril 14\, 2023 6:00 – 7:30 pm\nExploration of Sound Spaces – A Survey\nJohn Driscoll and Phil Edelstein of Composers Inside Electronics will present views of a number of works that they have collaborated on over a 50-year period.

SUMMARY:Australia: Sonorous VI – Camilla Hannan + Warren Burt
DESCRIPTION:MESS is back at The Substation with the sixth iteration of our Sonorous multi-channel commissions. This concert features two extraordinary artists who have both developed and refined unique sonic palettes across decades of dedication to their respective crafts. \n  \nCamilla Hannan is an Australian sound artist who works primarily with field recordings. She processes these recordings into abstract representations of place and experience. She investigates the construction of urban and natural environments sonically\, and spatially\, morphing these elements into new sound worlds. Camilla’s work is centred on a deep fascination with the way in which we listen to our environment and how this listening impacts upon our micro and macro worlds. \nFor Sonorous VI\, Camilla will conjure a sonic world\, one in which we inhabit both individually and collectively – a reflection of this place in time and the soundtrack to our internal manifestos. \nWarren Burt was born in Baltimore Maryland in 1949. He was raised in northern New York State and studied at the State University of New York at Albany from 1967-71 (with Joel Chadabe) and at the University of California\, San Diego from 1971-75 (with Kenneth Gaburo and Robert Erickson). He moved to Australia in 1975 and was involved in setting up the Music Department at La Trobe University from 1975 to 1981. He is a composer\, performer\, writer\, instrument builder\, video artist and more. Among recent performances was Darshan with a Pelican\, an 8 channel acousmatic composition\, which was performed at the GRM Paris concert series. \nWarren’s new work for MESS will be an 8-channel live mix using many different sound sources and tuning systems. The use of chaotic equations as both sound and pattern sources will be part of the piece. He hopes to\, in the words of his friend Dary John Mizelle\, pile pattern on pattern until chaos results. \nWarren is also a member of the EMF Institute Board of Directors\, founded by Joel Chadabe.
